General Care

  • Remove your jewellery before using hand sanitiser and let your hands dry completely before putting your jewellery back on.

  • Unless you’re wearing Tempo Jewellery which is water- and sweat resistant, always remove your jewellery when washing your hands as well as before showering, swimming or exercising.

  • Remove your jewellery before engaging in activities that involve physical impact or rough handling, such as sports or gardening.

  • Never spray perfume or make-up setting sprays on top of jewellery, especially Pearls.

  • Store your jewellery separately in a lined jewellery box or pouch to avoid scratching.

Cleaning

Clean your jewellery regularly to remove dirt, oils, and other residues that can dull its brilliance:

  1. Add a few drops of dishwashing liquid to an old soft toothbrush.

  2. Lightly brush the surfaces of the jewellery item, creating a lather for 30 seconds.

  3. Rinse the piece thoroughly under lukewarm water.

  4. Place the jewellery piece on a soft facial tissue

  5. Allow to dry naturally in the sun.

Protecting your pearls and opals

Pearls and Opals are delicate and require special care. Clean your Pearls with a soft, damp cloth after each wear and avoid soaking them in water or using harsh chemicals.

Both Pearls and Opals are soft and porous. The alcohol in hand sanitiser may cause your Pearls to dull or change colour while causing visible cracks on your Opal’s surface.

Don’t let them come into contact with sanitised skin until it’s completely dry. We suggest waiting five minutes before wear.

Expert Tips

  1. Avoid harsh chemicals and abrasive cleaners, this includes toothpaste. Most hand soaps contain chemicals or oils that could damage the surface of your jewellery.Add a few drops of dishwashing liquid to an old soft toothbrush.

  2. Rhodium Plated jewellery should be re-plated annually and this can be done at your nearest American Swiss store.

  3. All of our Sterling Silver jewellery is Rhodium Plated to ensure it remains brighter for longer. However, should tarnishing occur over time, use a silver polishing cloth to remove it. For deeper cleaning, use a paste of baking soda and water, or a commercial silver cleaner.

  4. Use a lint-free cloth to avoid leaving behind fibres or use our jewellery cleaners and cloths available for purchase in-store, to clean your jewellery at home.

Complementary professional Cleaning

Most gemstones can be cleaned with a mild dish soap and warm water solution. However, some are more delicate and may require special care. Talk to our in-store experts for specific advice. For those occasions when your jewellery needs a little more care, consult one of our experts and remember that American Swiss offers complementary professional cleaning services for all of our jewellery.
